Online Nursing Programs – Admission Requirements

Online RN to BSN Program

To qualify for our online BSN programs, you must meet the following prerequisites:

  • Hold an associate degree in nursing or a diploma degree in nursing, with a GPA of at least 2.75
  • Hold a current, unencumbered RN license

Admission process:

  • A completed undergraduate application
  • Resume or curriculum vitae
  • Official transcript(s)

Online Master of Science in Nursing Programs

To qualify for our online MSN, you must meet the following prerequisites:

  • Hold a BSN from an accredited college or university with a GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Have at least 1 year of full-time work experience as an RN (prior to registration in clinical or specialty courses)
  • Hold a current, unencumbered RN license
  • Completion of an undergraduate-level statistics course.

Admission process:

  • Resume or curriculum vitae
  • Professional goal statement (2 pages) Please include:
    • Reasons for pursuing your MSN degree.
    • Relate your past experiences to advancing career. Include the purpose for pursuing your graduate studies, why you wish to study at Duquesne, and your professional plans or career goals.
    • Past achievements in nursing (organization memberships, awards, scholarships, certifications etc).
    • Describe any special circumstances applicable to your background and professional history.
  • Two electronically submitted references: one academic (professor, instructor) and one professional (in a supervisory role)
  • Official transcript(s)

Online Post-Master’s Certificates

To qualify for our online PMC programs, you must meet the following prerequisites:

  • Hold a BSN (preferred) and MSN (required) from an accredited college or university
  • Hold a current, unencumbered RN license
  • Completion of an undergraduate-level statistics course.

Admission process:

  • Resume or curriculum vitae
  • Professional goal statement (2 pages) Please include:
    • Reasons for pursuing your Post-Master's Certificate
    • Relate your past experiences to advancing career. Include the purpose for pursuing your post-Master's studies, why you wish to study at Duquesne, and your professional plans or career goals.
    • Past achievements in nursing (organization memberships, awards, scholarships, certifications etc).
    • Describe any special circumstances applicable to your background and professional history.
  • Two electronically submitted references: one academic (professor, instructor) and one professional (in a supervisory role)
  • Official transcript(s)

Online Doctor of Nursing Practice

To qualify for admission into our online DNP program, you must:

  • Hold an MSN from a CCNE- or ACEN-accredited nursing program with a GPA of 3.0
  • * Applicants who hold a non-nursing master's degree will be evaluated for admission on an individual basis. This process may entail review of a portfolio or other evaluative mechanisms, and may require completion of some master's level nursing course(s).
  • Have completed an undergraduate or graduate statistics course with a “B” or better
  • Hold a current, unencumbered RN license
  • Complete a phone interview with a DNP Admission Committee member

Admission process:

  • Resume or curriculum vitae
  • Goal statement (2-3 pages). Please base your responses on the Essentials of Doctoral Education for Advanced Nursing Practice and include:
    • Reasons for pursuing your DNP degree.
    • Professional plans and career goals.
    • Your DNP Practice Project topic or idea.
    • Any past experience that relates to your area of interest or advancing career.
    • Past achievements in nursing (organization memberships, awards, scholarships, certifications etc).
  • Three electronically submitted references: academic (professor, instructor) and professional (in a supervisory role)
  • Official transcript(s)

Online Nursing Programs – Tuition

  • Undergraduate Tuition (2017-2018) is $878 per credit hour. To learn more about undergraduate tuition and financial aid, click here.

Duquesne University offers a 30% tuition discount for our graduate programs to RNs currently working either full-time or part-time at one of their tuition discount program partners. Contact an enrollment advisor to learn more.

If accepted, a nonrefundable $500 deposit is required to reserve your place in our RN-BSN program. A nonrefundable $250 deposit is required if accepted into our graduate programs.
